WHAT IS A SEWER SCOPE?

Whether a home is old or new, all homeowners are responsible for the sewer lines that run from their house to the street. As such, knowing the current condition of the sewer line can be a helpful tool when negotiating the purchase of your home. A Sewer Scope can help!

Older homes tend to have sewer pipes that are made from clay, while homes built around the mid-20th century have concrete pipes. Plastic pipes were then used as of the late 70’s and early 80’s. While the newer PVC/ABS sewer lines are less likely to be penetrated by roots like the concrete or clay pipes, issues can still arise.

Pipe shifting, cracks, and low spots can cause a lot of costly problems, including sewer backup. If not addressed quickly, sewer line repairs can be extremely expensive, adding up to thousands of dollars. Likewise, a prospective home buyer may request sewer issues be addressed by the seller prior to the purchase of the home they are considering. We recommend a sewer scope on every home over 25 years old.

OUR SEWER SCOPE INSPECTION PROCESS

Use a fiber optic camera to enter the sewer line
Check the condition of the pipes
Identify any deficiencies in the line

After the inspection has been completed, you will receive a written report and video documenting our findings. This report and video can be used to establish what repairs need to be made. This report may also be helpful to a licensed sewer/plumbing contractor when the time comes to locate and correct any issues.
